John Christopher Depp II was born on 9 June 1963 in the household of a civil engineer and a waitress. He has three siblings and he is the youngest of all children. He has one brother and two sisters. Johnny Depp relied on music for most part of his life as he used it as a means to escape his violent upbringing. His parents were very conservative and they thought that the only way to raise children is to hit them when they make a mistake to make them learn from it and beat them even more if they don’t get good grades in school. That was the way it was at that time and such parenthood gave birth to the rebellious Johnny. In order get back on his parents, he always did the opposite of what his parents wanted him to do. That makes his childhood very tough. In an interview with the Rolling Stone, Johnny opened up about his disturbed childhood saying,

“I wouldn’t say my youth was the perfect model in terms of raising a kid. It was a relatively violent upbringing. If you did something wrong, you got hit. If you didn’t do something wrong, you got hit. But my parents, they did the best they could with that they knew, and so I figured I’d do the best with what I knew, which was do pretty much the opposite from what you guys did – and I think I’ll be right. Not to say they were bad parents, because they weren’t. They just didn’t know any different, and it was a very different time.”

Johnny Depp’s parents got divorced when he was just 15 years old in 1978. The main reason for the split was violence and misunderstandings. Johnny wasn’t the only victim in his family it includes all the family members. They were so distant as they grew irritant of each other instead of trying to understand each other. His dad was particularly good with the belt and used it as a weapon of his choice whenever he had to beat the shit out of his children.  But he really loved his children and all that beating, flawed and wrong as it is, was the only way in his mind to behave his children.

Betty Sue Palmer was the name of the woman who brought Johnny Depp in to this world. She was a waitress in a local restaurant when she met Johnny Depp’s father. Johnny Depp was raised in a time when academia was the only way out of poverty for many people and they did everything they could to push their kids to get good grades. The conservative people were even ready to beat the shit out of their children if they didn’t comply or get good grades. Betty was a hard disciplinary who wanted the best for her son but her method was a so wrong. She thought beating children as the only thing to do to motivate them towards success. But that approach only made matters worst and gave birth to the rebellious side of Johnny Depp. But he was also very close to his mum and it gave him the idea on how not to raise children. So he does the opposite of what his mom did to him. In an interview, Johnny told the Rolling Stone,

“My mother was raised in a Shack, in the wilds of Appalachia, where the toilet was an outhouse. She used to say she did the same things that her mom did – and her mom certainly didn’t know any better. With my kids, they’re told 75 times a day that they’re loved. One thing I know is they feel loved and secure and happy and needed and necessary and a part of something.”

Betty Sue was actually the one who made it possible for Johnny to pursue music after he convinced her to buy some music gear. He convinced his mother to buy him a cheap Decca Guitar that was being sold for 25 bucks and a little blue plush amplifier. And it sounded like trash. Music became the escape mechanism for the emerging rock star and he just spent hours and hours locked in his room while playing music. He revealed that,

“I found a way to escape all the, sort of, nightmare home stuff, you know? It was a pretty radical – a pretty unpredictable – household that I lived in. You never knew what was going to be coming next. It might be an ashtray thrown at your head. Or a shoe.”

Johnny Depp’s mother Betty Sue was mainly the source of such violence. But after Betty’s divorce with Johnny’s father, she married Robert Palmer. He was an inspiration to Johnny Depp as he was a caring guy who loved his family and changed the way they all treated each other. His mother’s behavior changed a bit and she started to adopt a better way of teaching kids about stuff which was talking. Johnny was very close to his mother and he remembers many of his mother’s advises word by word. He even has a tattoo on his inner arm that reads “Betty Sue”. She was admitted in the ICU at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and was being treated for a “long disease”. She died at the age of 81 years in 2016, leaving Johnny Depp broken. In her memory he said,
